Buckaroo Banzai is a rock-star/brain-surgeon/comic book hero/samurai/whatever else you can think of, who along with his group, the Hong Kong Cavaliers, must stop evil creatures from the 8th dimension (all named John) who are trying to conquer our dimension. He is helped by Penny Pretty, who is a dead ringer for his late wife, and some good extra-dimensional beings who look and talk like they are from Jamaica.

A good idea of what happens when a group of scriptwriters, high on illicit substances, get together and create a film script. They then sell the script to a group of film execs, high on illicit substances, who think that it's a great idea and pitch it to a group of actors, high on illicit substances, etc, etc. Apparently.
